LCD TV LG 42PC55 42 inches / 106 cm

A 42-inch LG plasma at the price of an LCD TV in the same diagonal, but entry level. It wants to believe it, to think that is falling on the pearl. Difficult indeed not hope to combine the best of the LCD - with this famous circuit XD Engine III, this great achievement of LG - with the advantages of plasma, as are her best reactivity, its black level very low contrast with this non-standard that results.

Unfortunately, we déchanté. Rather, the opposite happened: the 42PC55, all very close, accumulated defects of the two technologies. Some (very average) plasmas, it has recovered this slab allergic to bright indirect light sources. To see a beautiful image without reflection, dive room in the dark! The burning is marked, black not deep enough, disappointing for a plasma, like responsiveness. The 100 Hz mode is not recommended, it introduces additional saccades and the basic settings colors are not at all in terms of what we have seen on other LG products. Basic image is very blue. Fortunately, it is enough to choose the mode Doux, instead of Dynamics, to retrieve more accurate colors - it will still do with a white rose slightly but it is what we do better on this TV. No manual adjustment end is proposed.

Petit usual couplet: between promise and contrast what we measured, the gap is too large. LG advance contrast ratio of 15000:1. Where do they find it?? After adjustment, we must be content ... 450:1. This is 300 times less than what we hoped!

One point we finally had again thrilled about this TV. The treatment XD Engine III is still as well. With him, scaled images are passed, the noise level is low, negligible. This combined with the extended gamut, we arrived at gradients of high quality, just as good as the best Sony televisions. The only real fault is displayed when you look at the picture closely: there are crosses in the flat. However, 2m50 with hindsight, one sees anything anymore.

One final point: LG has been modest on the viewing angles of the screen. They herald 160 ° only what position the screen at the monitors TN. If one takes care to hide indirect light sources, all goes well, almost to the vertical side of the screen.
